Library Tutorial Summary

Summary (notes to self):

ArticlesPlus is the database to search when looking for scholarly articles (also known as academic articles or peer reviews. These articles have abstracts and references. Start by searching a topic. If there are too many results, you can refine them and search again. Once you find an article you might use, you can print it, email it, or save it to a local drive. Most articles are in pdf form, but if they aren't you can click the "find it" link to locate it.

"Alice" is where you search for books. When typing in the search bar, use small terms and combine them with 'and'. The more specific you are, the more precise your results will be. Once you find a book you want to use, write down the call number or have it texted to you. See what floor the book is located on, go there, and follow the signs that correlate to the call number. You can check out on the 2nd or 4th floor with your student ID.

If you need to find a book based on its citation, look for the author, title of journal, publish date, volume, and issue. Go to the library homepage, then "Alice," search under 'periodical; and type the name of the journal in the search bar. Once you find it, click on it to choose the volume and issue you want. If it is not available, go to the Library Loan section and request to have it searhed for and sent to you for free.

Ohio Link is very similar to "Alice" only it is a network for schools in Ohio. Search for your book and click "find it." Click request, sign in with your Ohio ID, choose a pick up location, and click submit. Your source should arrive within 3 business days.

  1. What an informative summary. Great job differentiating Alice from Ohio Link. I didn't know we could check out books on the 2d floor.
